Repentance: Awakening Your Soul When Life Lulls You to Sleep - Lina An Noura

Testing Alt

Sometimes, as the days go by, when we're busy, caught up in our little routines, we forget our true goals. We become complacent with what we've accomplished, as if we could rest on our laurels. But Allah, in His mercy, sends us trials, reminders… And that's when we realize we're not yet where we want to be.

Sometimes we feel satisfied even though deep down we know we could do better. We then remember that we haven't lived up to our aspirations. So, we ask for forgiveness. We ask for forgiveness because we didn't do enough. We ask for forgiveness because we were too busy and didn't try to do better than yesterday. We ask for forgiveness because we want to change, because we want to grow, because we want to become a better version of ourselves.

Repentance is not just about acknowledging an obvious sin. It is also about asking forgiveness for our disguised negligence, the kind we no longer even notice, but which God, in His wisdom, reminds us of.

In fact, I dedicated a chapter to this subject – routine and its pitfalls – in my book La Dunya: The Illusion of This World , where I share more about how this life can distance us without us realizing it.

With gentleness and kindness,
