Originally, I hadn't planned to write about this. But again, with everything that's happening right now, with the murder of Aboubakar , I couldn't remain silent. Once again, people continue their Islamophobia.
But what exactly is Islamophobia?
Islamophobia is discriminating against a person because of their religion. It means oppressing them, ostracizing them, and sometimes even publicly humiliating them.
Aboubakar , however, was killed.
And that's the finishing touch, the final point, the pinnacle of Islamophobia.
But we Muslims are also killed every day… not physically, but internally. By the gaze of others. By their insults. By their changing behavior when they discover who we are, what we believe, what we wear, what we represent.
Do we deserve this? No.
No one deserves to be discriminated against, humiliated, or mistreated because of their faith. No one.
And yet, despite everything, we don't stop there.
Because we know it's a test. And Allah has chosen us to live through this test.
He chose us because we are the most loved, therefore the most tested.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “ When Allah loves a people, He tests them. ”
Islamophobia is everywhere:
At work, in shops, on the street, on public transport, in the media… everywhere. But we don't necessarily see ourselves as victims. Because we know why we persevere. We know why we keep going. We know that even if no one loves us here on earth, Allah sees us and loves us.
And above all, we have one thing that many do not have: patience .
And this patience is our strength. It is the endurance after the tears. After the sadness. After the oppression.
Because in the end, and this is a fact, we will be the real winners .
So you, my dear sister, you who have already suffered from Islamophobia… Do not lose hope.
I still suffer from it today. And that's why I'm writing this article. Because I endure it too. And so do you.
I urge you to invoke your Lord.
Hope. Hold on.
Because at the end of this ordeal, there will be something great.
Something that no one can take away from you.
With all my love, sincerity, and prayers,
— Lina An Noura
A sister who feels what you feel, and who writes so as not to remain silent.
